What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Information in Forms
Information provided in Contact Us, Newsletter Subscriptions, and Contest Entry Forms are used only for the purpose intended. Contest entries are stored securely on the website for no longer than one year, and your name and email may be used to communicate about current year’s contest winners, and also to build awareness of subsequent years’s contests. Names and emails will be removed from our databases promptly when requested.
Those entering student contests and particularly winners have implicitly waived privacy rights to their name, school, grade, and publication rights to their story, essay, or poem in return for the contest prize(s). Teachers of winning students will also have their name and school included in the winners’ listings in return for the prize offered the teachers of winning students. No personal information beyond these details are made public on the website.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
